Abstract

The current studies show that some types of siloxanes have a significant impact on environment. They are penetrating into the environment mainly as components of various preparations. The review is focused on the identification and possible degradation of selected cyclosiloxane types – octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5). In GC-MS of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3) and hexamethyldisiloxane (L2) degradation products have been identified. The efficiency of degradation of D4 and D5 was 99.8 % and 99.5 %, respectively. The results suggest biodegradation of cyclic siloxanes using the Fenton reaction under aerobic or anaerobic conditions in the environment.
