Abstract

A modified method of extraction oxidation was proposed for the decomposition of epoxy composites reinforced with aramid fibers. Instead of sulfuric acid used so far for the standard decomposition of epoxy composites reinforced by carbon fibers, phosphoric acid together with 30% H2O2 was tested. The process was verified by the oxidation extraction of neat aramid fabric: the weight loss due to oxidative extraction and the humidity and sizing of neat aramid fabric were in a good agreement.
