Abstract

A rapid analytical method for the determination of chlorophenols in water was developed. The method is based on direct acetylation of chlorophenols, solid-phase microextraction of chlorophenyl acetates using poly(dimethylsiloxane)-coated fiber and final analysis of the acetates by GC-MS, 4-bromophenol being used as an internal standard. Calibration curves are linear in the range from 0.5 to 100 µg.l-1. The detection limit is about 0.1 µg.l-1 for most of the chlorophenols tested. The method does not require the use of organic solvents.
